WHAT WE DO
McVickers are electrical and solar energy contractors. We manage small to large scale projects for all sectors throughout the construction industry. We have extensive experience working on new build and refurbishment projects for commercial, education, leisure and healthcare clients and have specialist housing teams carrying out rewires and upgrades in the domestic contract market.
In 2011 we achieved MCS certification and moved into the renewables market, to date we have installed solar PV to more than 400 homes across the North East and have completed numerous commercial type projects with a solar PV element sized between 4kWp and 70kWp.

RENEWABLE ENERGY
Green energy solutions for homes and business
McVickers entered the renewables market in 2011 as it was a natural extension to the other services already provided at the time. We have installed Solar PV in the commercial sector for private clients wanting to upgrade their premises and make savings on electricity and also for those clients wishing to build new premises and requiring a renewable element to meet specific regulations. It has also brought us back into the private domestic market working closely with homeowners to gain the most from their property.
EDUCATION
Energy solutions for University buildings, schools and libraries
We have carried out numerous projects within the education sector both as a sub-contractor and also as main contractor overseeing all aspects of the project and all other sub trades. We understand the specific requirements of the education sector evolving to develop tailored solutions to meet our clients’ expectations. We adopt flexible working patterns to tie in with the school calendar ensuring minimum disruption for all parties.
HEALTH
Energy solutions for GP surgeries, hospitals and other healthcare buildings
Our team are extremely mindful of all of the requirements and conditions of working within hospitals and health facilities. We have an excellent health & safety record and all of our on-site operatives are fully trained to work within the strict constraints required. We specialise in providing efficient and cost effective services that deliver high quality and value for money. Over the years we have developed an excellent reputation working within this sector.
TESTING
Periodic testing and condition reports for all types of premises
As part of our maintenance works within Durham University we have been carrying out fixed installation testing site wide. We have recently started carrying out fixed installation tests for other clients as this is a legal requirement for premises to be checked on a regular basis and we are seeking to expand this side of our business.
HOUSING
Full domestic rewires and partial upgrades
In recognition that the social housing market demands a team with specific expertise our specialist housing department targets and manages the needs of the social housing market and the governments’ decent homes standard which was introduced to improve the condition of local authority owned houses. Our experience and expertise have enabled us to create close working relationships with numerous clients on both a partnering and sub contract basis carrying out full rewires, partial rewires and upgrades to both occupied and void properties.
COMMERCIAL
Refurbishments and new build developments
We have been involved for many years working on projects from the commercial sector, from office block refurbishments, car park conversions, new build factories to law & order and leisure facility extensions. Services supplied across this sector include general power and lighting, fire alarm, intruder alarm, data installation, CCTV, lightning protection, gas suppression systems, door access systems, disabled refuge, disabled toilet alarms, UPS systems, generators and audio visual equipment.
