Contract Name: Arthur Holmes
Value: £1.3 million
Duration of Works: 9 months
Completed: Mar 16
Description of Works: Partial refurbishment to building and change of use from offices to data centre and upgrade to existing infrastructure including UPS and generator backups.
Project Overview:
We were appointed by Durham University as part of the M&E team to design and install the electrical installation for the new prestigious Arthur Holmes Data Centre.
Working with Sine Consulting we developed the original performance specification to design an installation that met the University’s requirements and budget.
The key elements of the project consisted of a 1600KVA HV supply to an HV transformer which supplied power to the centre. The power supply was backed up using 2 x 800KVA standby transformers and a 1000KVA UPS system housed within a GRP enclosure which ensures that all essential supplies are maintained at all times. We also carried out a full electrical installation within the data centre and provided power to all the mechanical plant.
The final design on this installation gave the University Added Value via means of us providing a design to a much higher performance specification than originally requested and brought the project home both ahead of time and below budget.
